Remarques & avis / Review — Voici une de mes séries préférées : la collection spéciale du Taiyou (le Soleil) trimestriel — iconographie riche et de qualité, sujets variés et toujours passionnants, très "japonais" — qui débute avec le présent volume, consacré à Edo (Tokyo), au Tokaido (la Route de la Mer de l'Est, axe capital entre Tokyo et Kyoto, alors divisé en 53 étapes, présentées ici), et à la comparaison des cartes des précédents à trois époques : l'ère Edo (1603-1868), l'ère Meiji (1868-1912) et aujourd'hui (1977 : ). Fabuleux voyage dans le temps, agréablement illustré.
Here is one of my favorite series : the special issues of Taiyou (the Sun), a quarterly — fine and rich iconography, always fascinating, varied and very "Japanese" topics — which starts with the present volume, dedicated to Edo (Edo, Tokyo), the Tokaido (the Path of the Eastern Sea, important axis between Tokyo and Kyoto, then divided into 53 stops, presented here), and the comparison between maps of the foresaid from three eras : Edo period (1603-1868), Meiji period (1868-1912) and now (1977 : ). A fabulous travel in time, nicely illustrated.
