Remarques & avis / Review — KATO Teruhide (né en 1936) était un prospère créateur de kimono, quand il décida de se reconvertir, à cinquante ans, en artiste-graveur sur bois traditionnel, brillant, et rapidement reconnu. Ses estampes japonaises sont reconnaissables au premier coup d'œil — Kyoto traditionnel toujours, celui des vieilles ruelles, de Gion, des temples, des machiya, du bois et des ombrelles, qui suggèrent seules une présence, féminine. Livre beau et surprenant, édité à la suite du succès de l'exposition de ses œuvres à New York en 1991.
KATO Teruhide (born in 1936) was a successful kimono designer, when he decided to switch, at the age of fifty, to traditional woodblock print maker, brilliant and quickly renowned. His Japanese etching are recognizable at first sight — traditional Kyoto always, that of the old streets, Gion, the temples, machiya, wood and parasols, which alone suggest a female presence. Beautiful and surprising book, published following the success of the exhibition of his prints in New York City in 1991.
