Cet Izumo est un important chemin de traverse et document, centré non seulement sur l'architecture de bois, la vie et la nature — de magnifiques paysages — autour d'Izumotaisha, mais aussi et surtout sur les rites shinto et coutumes locales des habitants. The village of Izumo houses the very famous Izumotaisha shrine, second in importance only to that of Ise, and where all gods of Japan gather in October. UEDA Shoji (1913-2000) is a renowned Japanese photographer, who worked exclusively around his native region, Tottori. The present Izumo is an important backroad and document, focused not only on the wood architecture, the life and the nature — splendid landscapes — around Izumotaisha, but also on its people's shinto rites and local traditions.
