
Tadanori YOKOO (1936-) is one of the most prominent, most original, active and successful Japanese graphic designers of the XXth century, and an accomplished artist (painting, print-making, photography, & so on).
After 3 years at Kobe Newspaper (1957-1960), he moves to Tokyo and enters the Nippon Design Center. In 1964, he creates the Studio Ilfil with Akira UNO, gets acquainted and start working with Yukio MISHIMA in 1965, and from 1967 onwards works for Shuji TERAYAMA's Tenjo Sajiki avant-garde theater, creating stage sets and posters.
He won numerous important national & international awards, and had his first solo exhibition at the MoMA in New York in 1972.
He got deeply interested in India & Buddhism after his first trip to India with Kishin SHINOYAMA (cf. Shinoyama's Yokoo Tadanori soshite Indo), influencing deeply his own imagery & art.

YOKOO Tadanori (1936-) est un graphiste japonais majeur du XXe siècle, des plus actifs et originaux, un artiste accompli de surcroît (peinture, gravure, photographie, etc.).
Après trois ans au Journal de Kobe (1957-1960), il déménage à Tokyo et entre au Nippon Design Center. En 1964, il crée le Studio Ilfil avec UNO Akira, fait la connaissance de et commence de travailler avec MISHIMA Yukio en 1965, et à partir de 1967, il collabore au théâtre d'avant-garde de TERAYAMA Shuji, Tenjo Sajiki, réalisant affiches et décors.
Il a remporté nombre prix importants, nationaux et internationaux, et eut sa première exposition solo au MoMA de New York en 1972.
Il s'intéressa beaucoup à l'Inde et au bouddhisme après son premier voyage en Inde avec SHINOYAMA Kishin (cf. le Yokoo Tadanori soshite Indo de Shinoyama), ce qui influença profondément son art et imagerie.
