Remarques & avis / ReviewHiroshi HAMAYA's best-known work, a photo-documentary on life in remote valleys of the Niigata prefecture in the 1950s, through two series: Echigo, a short series of fine portraits of locals, and Kuwatoridani, the main part, which depicts in great detail the New-Year festivities of a small village of 25 households — impressive portraits, interiors and landscapes, printed in rich gravure (ink has often offset to adverse pages).

Divers / Misc. — New ed. in 1977.
