Remarques & avis / Review — Here is one of our favorite series: the special issues of Taiyo (the Sun), a quarterly — fine and profuse iconography, good printing and paper, and always fascinating, varied and very 'Japanese' topics.
This issue is dedicated to the very popular Japanese card game Iroha Karuta — presentation of numerous games, back from the Edo period, variants and thematic decks (Japanese ghosts, etc.), with the detailed explanation of the proverbs, and a number of similar playing card games, such as Tensho Karuta, Un-Sum Karuta, Genji Monogatari Karuta, etc., with numerous reproductions. A fantastic issue, and a personal favorite.
