Remarques & avis / Review — In 1987-88, George HASHIGUCHI travelled all over Japan from Hokkaido to Okinawa, and took pictures of the 17 year-old boys and girls he met along the way — highschoolers for the most part, but also fishermen, sumo wrestlers, dancers, maiko, housewives, shopkeepers... — thus drawing a very beautiful & very interesting transversal map of seventeenagers of a rather traditional Japan. All of them are 40 years old now. Excellent monochrome shots, finely printed in a large-sized, square volume.
En 1987-88, HASHIGUCHI Joji parcourut le Japon d'Hokkaïdo à Okinawa, et photographia les garçons et filles de 17 ans qu'il croisa sur son chemin — lycéens pour la plupart, mais aussi pêcheurs, sumotori, danceurs, maiko, femmes au foyer, commerçants... — dessinant ainsi une très belle et très intéressante carte transversale des jeunes de 17 ans d'un Japon plutôt traditionnel. Tous ont 40 ans à présent. Excellents clichés monochromes, bien imprimés dans un volume carré grand format.
