Remarques & avis / Review — Tsuneo ENARI (1936-) photographs here the survivors and descendants — women, children, orphans and elderly : men were taken by the army — of the Japanese who dwelt in Manchuria when the USSR invaded it in 1945. Backed up by their personal stories and those of the ones who could go back to Japan, the great portraits of the imposing Shaohai no Manshu are a splendid human testimony of a large part of the Showa era and of troubled times, for which ENARI was granted the prestigious Ken Domon Award in 1985.
ENARI Tsuneo (1936-) photographie ici les survivants et descendants — femmes, enfants, orphelins et personnes âgées : les hommes ayant été pris par l'armée — des Japonais qui étaient établis en Manchourie quand L'URSS l'envahit en 1945. Appuyé par leur récit et celui de ceux qui purent retourner au Japon, les superbes portraits de l'imposant Shaohai no Manshu sont un superbe témoignage humain d'un large pan de l'ère Showa et d'un temps troublé, pour lequel ENARI reçut le prestigieux prix Domon Ken en 1985.
