Remarques & avis / Review — George HASHIGUCHI continues his self-imposed task of 'record[ing] the present scenes of modern Japan', and after 102 seventeen-year-old boys and girls (cf. 17-sai no Chizu (1988)), he introduces here the 112 fathers he met, questionned and photographed during his travels throughout Japan. Fine monochrome photographs in a large-sized volume, for a beautiful and touching transversal portrait of a Japan little-spoken of — 'The sadness is not in the lives of fathers alone; it is in the very existence of Japan' (Postface).
HASHIGUCHI George poursuit sa tâche "d'enregistrement des scènes actuelles du Japon moderne", et après 102 garçons et filles de 17 ans (cf. 17-sai no Chizu (1988)), il présente ici les 112 pères qu'il rencontra, questionna et photographia durant ses voyages à travers tout le Japon. Excellentes photographies monochromes dans un volume grand format, pour un bel et touchant portrait transversal d'un Japon dont on parle peu — "La tristesse ne se trouve pas seulement dans les vies des pères, elle est dans l'existence même du Japon" (Postface).
