Review — Photojournalist TAMURA Shigeru (1909-1987 [en]) documents here the situation in North Vietnam in Dec. 1966-Jan. 1967: the terrible aftermath of the war with the USA (the wounded and the destruction), and the daily lives of the people in the communist Democratic Republic of Vietnam. Fine b&w pictures, some very striking (the wounded); a few pics showing the damage are of an extreme beauty; the second part (the people) is akin to propaganda, showing preferably smiling young women in arms and in the fields. The book received the 1967 Japan Photography Critics' Association Award.
