Remarques & avis / Review — Akiko KANDA, graduate from Martha GRAHAM's Dance Company, has been the leading and fascinating figure of modern dance in Japan for many a decade ; Sumiko HANEDA even followed her in a documentary film, Akiko Kanda : Portrait of a Dancer (1985). Kishin SHINOYAMA gives here fascinating b&w pictures, much movement, focused and blurred, choice of large grain, subtle arrangement — and success of a surprisingly powerful transcription of rhythm, elegance and grace into photographs.
KANDA Akiko, sortie de la Compagnie de Dance de Martha GRAHAM, fut pendant plusieurs dizaines d'années la figure phare de la dance moderne au Japon ; HANEDA Sumiko lui consacra même un film documentaire, Akiko Kanda : Portrait of a Dancer (1985). SHINOYAMA Kishin en donne ici de fascinants clichés n&b, beaucoup de mouvements, du net et du flou, choix marqué pour le gros grain, un agencement subtil — une belle réussite que d'avoir avec force transcrit rythme, élégance et grâce en photo.
