Remarques & avis / Review — An amazing piece of acid-humorous, chronicle illustration by the famous pictorial columnist YAMAFUJI Shoji. Black Angle was the name of the page he had in Weekly Asahi (here the years 1976 & 1977), a caustic news illustration surrounded by its characteristic black funeral border, that made lots of teeth grind! A fine volume, heavy paper and fine color printing on black background.

Un superbe bout d'illustration drôle-acide, par le célèbre illustrateur-chroniqueur YAMAFUJI Shoji. Black Angle était le nom de la page dont il disposait dans Asahi Hebdo (ici les années 1976 & 1977), une illustration-revue caustique encadrée de sa bordure funéraire caractéristique, qui fit grincer bien des dents. Un beau volume, papier fort et bonne impression couleur sur fond noir.

Remarques & avis / Review — Here is one of our favorite series : the special issues of Taiyo (the Sun), a quarterly — fine and profuse iconography, good printing and paper, and always fascinating, varied and very 'Japanese' topics.
The present issue is dedicated to one hundred renowned Japanese men who graduated from the famous Waseda University, one of the leading private universities in Japan, founded by Shigenobu OKUMA in 1882 — a man of great influence in the Meiji government who retired from politics and founded a school of academic freedom. Many a famous and influential man worked and / or graduated from Waseda — among which Azusa ONO, Tameyuki AMANO (co-founders), Shoyo TSUBOUCHI (founder of "Waseda Bungaku"), Isoo ABE, Ikuo OYAMA, and many a writer, politician, artist, painter... : one hundred of them are presented here, with a profusion of illustration — books, pictures, diaries, letters and so on. As special supplements, a self-portrait by Yaichi AIZU, a poem by Shigenobu OKUMA, and "Sarusangaku" by Shoyo TSUBOUCHI. A fine issue.

Voici une de nos séries préférées : la collection spéciale du Taiyo (le Soleil) trimestriel — iconographie riche et de qualité, bonne facture, sujets variés et toujours passionnants, très "japonais".
Ce numéro est consacré à cent hommes renommés qui sortirent de la célèbre université de Waseda, une des universités privées majeures au Japon, fondée par OKUMA Shigenobu en 1882 — un homme très influent auprès du gouvernement Meiji, qui se retira de la politique et fonda une école de liverté académique. Nombre personnalité célèbre et influente travaillèrent et / ou furent diplômés de Waseda — entre autres ONO Azusa, AMANO Tameyuki (co-fondateurs), TSUBOUCHI Shoyo (fondateur du "Waseda Bungaku"), ABE Isoo, OYAMA Ikuo, et nombre écrivain, homme politique, artiste, peintre... : une centaine d'entre eux sont ici présentés en détail, avec profusion d'illustration — livres, photographies, carnets intimes, lettres, etc. En suppléments spéciaux, un autoportrait d'AIZU Yaichi, un poème de OKUMA Shigenobu, et le "Sarusangaku" de TSUBOUCHI Shoyo. Très bon numéro.
