Remarques & avis / Review — A great iconographic festival for the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games: the best shots published in the Asahi group newspaper and magazine are collected here, in deluxe edition — a slight personal preference for the b&w pics, due to the fine reproduction by photogravure — and all ceremonies and olympic sports get their go : athletics / track n field, shooting, horse-riding, cycling, watersports, rowing, fencing, judo, wrestling, gymnastics, volleyball, field hockey, football, swimming, diving... A real treat !

Un véritable festival iconographique des Jeux Olympiques de 1964 à Tokyo : les plus remarquables clichés parus dans les journaux du groupe Asahi se retrouvent ici en édition de luxe — une légère préférence personnelle pour les n&b, du fait de la très bonne repro en héliogravure — et toutes festivités et tous les sports olympiques y passent : athlétisme, tir, équitation, cyclisme, sports d'eau, aviron, escrime, judo, lutte, gymnastique, volleyball, hockey sur gazon, football, nage, plongeon... Un vrai bonheur !

Remarques & avis / Review — A great and important early work by Ihei KIMURA, with numerous pictures, from Okinawa marketplaces to dollmakers and Kimura's cherished street corners, and text with a slight technical bias (How to use / shoot etc. photobooks were very popular in the 1930s-50s, and Kimura was addicted to newest cameras), in a beautifully crafted volume. A fantastic reflection of Japan in the 1930s.

Un ouvrage tostif et important par KIMURA Ihei, avec foison de photos de sujets variés, des marchés d'Okinawa aux fabricants de poupées et aux coins de rue aimés de Kimura, et texte sous un angle / prétexte (les photobooks Comment utiliser / photographier etc. étaient très populaires dans les années 1930-50, et Kimura était un accroc des nouveaux appareils-photo et objectifs), dans un beau volume très bien fini. Un fantastique témoignage du Japon des années 1930.
