Remarques & avis / Review — The sixth issue of the quality quarterly Shashin Eizo / Photo Image, an outstanding avant-garde photography & critic laboratory, featuring impressive series by Eiko ISHIOKA (great psychedelic collages of New York City), Takayuki OGAWA (fine sharp-contrast portraits of transvestites, cabaret workers, and nudes), Yutaka TAKANASHI & Takuma NAKAHIRA (remarkable 'Provoke' grainy & blurred monochrome travel & urban snapshots), Nobuyoshi ARAKI & Shiro TATSUMI (a fantastic piece of art: wanderings in public housings, portraits, nudes, pubic hair close-ups and compositions, in very bold and successful layout). A superb issue.
Remarques & avis / Review — An important panorama of 'world' photography (cf. Misc. below) in 1957: Contrarily to what the title suggests, half of the volume is dedicated to Japanese photography and presents, beautifully printed on fine paper, works by the Japanese masters of the time: Ihei KIMURA, Kinsuke SHIMADA, Yonosuke NATORI, Yasuhiro ISHIMOTO, Hiroshi HAMAYA, Yoichi MIDORIKAWA, Shoji UEDA and others; While the international part is largely dedicated to Magnum photographers. An excellent volume.
