Remarques & avis / Review — Here is one of our favorite series : the special issues of Taiyo (the Sun), a quarterly — fine and profuse iconography, good printing and paper, and always fascinating, varied and very "Japanese" topics.
The present issue is dedicated to the Japanese ceremony of tea-making and its influence. Developed by MURATA Shuko and TAKENO Joo during the fastuous Momoyama period (15th-16th c.) and perfected by SEN-NO-RIKYU, the art of tea-making reflected in all fields of Japanese arts and culture. So as to convey the beauty of ceremonial tea-making, are here presented the highest quality tea-cups, masterpiece teachings, paintings, caligraphic specimen and preserved tea-houses. Is also introduced a history of tea-making in the steps of great masters (MURATA Shuko, TAKENO Joo, SEN-NO-RIKYU, KOBORI Enshu, KANAMORI Showa, MATSUDAIRA Fumai, II Naosuke, etc.) through their portraits, letters and personal belongings, here reproduced for the first time.

Ce numéro est consacré à la cérémonie du thé japonais et à son influence. Développé pendant la fastueuse période Momoyama (XVe-XVIe s.) par MURATA Shuko et TAKENO Joo, perfectionné par SEN-NO-RIKYU, l'art du thé trouva écho dans tous les pans de la culture et arts japonais. Afin de rendre la beauté de la cérémonie du thé et d'en explorer l'essence, sont ici présentés les tasses à thé de la meilleure qualité, les enseignements des maîtres, des peintures, calligraphies, et des maisons de thé à jour préservées. Remarques & avis / Review — UMEHARA Ryuzaburo (1888-1886) is a Western-style Japanese painter inspired by impressionism and post-impressionism (mainly Auguste Renoir, Paul Gauguin and Camille Pissaro), who also integrated elements of nihonga (Japanese painting) into his own. His influence was such that the 1925-1940 period was dubbed "Yasui-Umehara era" (Yasui, after the name of the painter Sotaro YASUI). He received the Order of Cultural Merit in 1952 and the Asahi Culture Prize in 1956.
These three volumes are an excellent selection from his painted works, present some drafts and drawings, very well-printed (etching?) on fine paper, and some pictures of the artist in his atelier. A beautiful set.

UMEHARA Ryuzaburo (1888-1886) est un peintre japonais renommé d'inspiration occidentale impressionniste et post-impressionniste (principalement Auguste Renoir, Paul Gauguin et Camille Pissaro) qui intégra certaines caractéristiques du nihonga (peinture traditionnelle japonaise) dans son œuvre. Son rayonnement fut tel que la période 1925-1940 fut nommée "l'ère Yasui-Uméhara" (Yasui, du nom du peintre YASUI Sotaro). Il obtint l'Ordre Culturel du Mérite en 1952 et le Prix Asahi de la Culture en 1956.
Ces trois volumes sont une excellente sélection de son œuvre peinte, présentent des esquisses et dessins, excellemment imprimés (litho ?) sur beau papier, et quelques photos de l'artiste dans son atelier. Très bel ensemble.
