Remarques & avis / Review — Here is one of our favorite series : the special issues of Taiyo (the Sun), a quarterly — fine and profuse iconography, good printing and paper, and always fascinating, varied and very 'Japanese' topics.
The present issue is dedicated to the famous anthology "100 Waka by 100 Poets", selected by FUJIWARA Sadaie in the XIIIth c., and the quintessence of Japanese mediaeval culture. Are found in this issue, reproduced for the first time, numerous precious wood-engraved books, illustrated books, card games, picture frames linked to the Hyakunin Isshu (artworks by famous Yedo ukiyoe painters like UTAGAWA Kuniyoshi, KATSUKAWA Shunsho, KANO Tanyu, OGATA Korin, etc.), photographs of associated places, and calligraphies by HON'AMI Koetsu. Follow scenes of Sagano (Kyoto), near Mt. Ogura, where FUJIWARA Sadaie lived. Fine photographs by Takeji IWAMIYA and a superb frieze in double fold-out by Tadanori YOKOO.

Remarques & avis / Review — One of those excellent publications that appear from time to time and are found with great pleasure — the heads of the new contemporary Japanese / Tokyo photography, that great artistic blur between private and public, and their master / predecessors. Minimal text, full of images, full page ! A great blend, strong and consistant.
