Remarques & avis / Review — Fine little book by the Japanese photographer Shimpei ASAI, illustrated with some of the artist's pictures which one can rarely lay an eye on (such as his portraits), where he's had the excellent idea to talk about his work as a photographer and his feelings towards the camera, his subjects and models — not without humour!
Joli petit volume du photographe japonais ASAI Shimpei, illustré de photos de l'artiste qu'on n'a guère l'occasion de voir (en particulier ses portraits), où il a eu l'excellente idée de parler de son métier de photographe, et de ses sentiments vis-à-vis de l'appareil, de ses sujets et de ses modèles — non sans humour !

Remarques & avis / Review — The impressive collection of grass, trees & flowers gathered by the Japanese businessman TSUBOUCHI Hisao (1914-1999), in a fine portfolio of pictures by Shimpei ASAI on separate plates and thick paper. Color rendering is sometimes eery and gives a refreshing touch to these traditional Japanese vegetable landscapes & details.
L'impressionnante collection de graminées, arbres et fleurs rassemblée par l'homme d'affaire japonais TSUBOUCHI Hisao (1914-1999), en un beau portfolio de clichés d'ASAI Shimpei sur planches séparées et papier fort. Le rendu d'impression est parfois étrange et donne une touche rafraîchissante à ces paysages et détails végétaux traditionnels japonais.

Remarques & avis / Review — The fine 1981 issue of the luxury Canon annual magazine, for club members only. Excellent color and monochrome selection — Japanese photography big shots and laureates of the year — with a heavy focus on portraits (including Japanese children and specials on a theater actress and a traditional festival). Great printing, especially deep blacks.
L'excellent numéro de 1981 du luxueux magazine annuel Canon, réservé aux membres du Club. Superbe sélection couleur et monochrome — grosses pointures de la photographie japonaise et lauréats de l'année — avec la part belle donnée aux portraits (entre autres : enfants japonais, et chapitres spéciaux sur une actrice de théâtre et un festival traditionnel). Excellente impression, en particulier les noirs profonds.
