Remarques & avis / Review — The true showcase of printing in the Japan of the 1960s and 70s. GAJ is an excellent publication, which joins ground articles (see below) and a great variety of illustrations (silver-gold, in 3D...) and engravings (photo-litho., copper, intaglio, various combinations...).
Our favorites in this vol. 14 : the truly superb upper cover ("Edo Komon and Hokusai" by Nakamura Makoto, renowned artist and at the time chief of the Design Office at Shiseido's), a very fine engraving of one of Sharaku's kabuki actors, the "Cash Dispenser Special Card" (It's year 1972, mind you) which acts as the advertizement for Toppan Printing, and the small 70s marvels which come along with it, the very pretty reproduction of an all pastel-color woodprint (for Yoshida Printing), two silver photo-stickers (Cellostick), and many more : this volume is definitely a favorite. Uncommon.
Véritable vitrine de l'imprimerie du Japon des années 1960-70. GAJ est une excellente publication, qui associe des articles techniques de fond (voir ci-dessous) et une extrême richesse en tous types d'illustrations (dorées-argentées, en relief...) et gravures (photo-litho., cuivre, intaglio, combinaisons diverses...).
En coups de cœur et chefs-d'œuvre de ce vol. 14 : la couverture ("Edo Komon and Hokusai" par Nakamura Makoto, artiste renommé et, à l'époque, chef du département Design de Shiseido), absolument splendide, une magnifique gravure reproduisant un acteur de kabuki de Sharaku, la carte magnétique de retrait (nous sommes en 1972) qui sert de publicité pour Toppan Printing, et les merveilles de 70s qui l'accompagnent, la très jolie repro d'un bois, tout en pastels (pour Yoshida Printing), deux photos autocollantes argentées (Cellostick), et d'autres encore : ce volume est décidément notre préféré. Peu courant.
